Not so long ago, this expression had negative connotations; dogs did not seem to live to their name of "Man's Best Friend". Here are few examples:
- In the dog house,
- a dog's breakfast,
- sick as a dog,
- going to the dogs,
- dog tired and
- dog-eat-dog world
But i notice something very strange with this expression today!!
It is no longer true.
Mine, for example, are 2 of the most spoiled creatures on earth! They go to training school, doggy daycare, grooming salons and are bathed, manicured and pedicured.
Their vaccinations are up-to-date, up to the minute and they chow down on gourmet food that i have been known to prepare for them in my own kitchen and wouldn't think twice of eating that wonderful slop myself!
They each have a big bed that gets washed every couple of days, get wonderful treats every time they behave the way i ask them to and get taken out for drives in the car, just for the fun of it. We won't talk about the doggy motel they stay at when i can't take them with me!
I am as diligent with their walks as with my own exercise regimen and i beam like a proud Mom when someone compliments them!
So what's wrong with this picture you ask? Well, nothing at all, i say. "It's a dog's life" has become a positive remark in my world and i know that this old dog has learned many new tricks since adopting the pups.
Signing off with "Let sleeping dogs lie" and one of my favorites, "Every dog has its day" Woof! Woof!
Love me, love my dogs ♥
Better be a Little "S" than a Little Less! ♥

DeleteLove you, Sis-Wa. xxxxxx ♥
It looks like your dogs have a better life than some people we hear about! Maybe it's time to change the expression!
ReplyDelete"It's a human's life!!!!"
Yes, that's for sure! I do like my doggy bags, though, and i tell you, the dogs don't get what's in there, I do! xxxxx S
DeleteSounds like being a dog isn't half bad. :D Visiting from the A-Z challenge!

Stopped over from a-z...the dog is the only one in this house who actually has haircuts scheduled ahead of time...not just when he looks shabby! The vet wants to see him for 6 month checkups, but my kids only have to go once a year, so that is good enough for him too!
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel Andrea, Vet bills can really hurt the chequing account balance! Once a year is plenty when nothing is wrong!

Blessed Furbabies. Not all Dogs are that Lucky:)
ReplyDeleteMy dogs even have a pet cat! Yes, a live one! Her name is Missy and the 3 of them are best buddies!
