H is for: ♥ Home is where the Heart is ♥
If you are like me, today’s subject is right up my alley. I feel like an escargot some days… wherever I go, home follows me.
I have lived in tiny apartments that could have been considered dreadful if it was not for the fact that it is where I had made my home and that every inch in there spoke of me . Be it a knick-knack on a table, a picture on the wall, a placemat well displayed, I don’t need an interior decorator’s degree to make a place my own.
My corner at the office is my home away from home: there I have a beautiful nameplate to stake my claim. I have a few pictures of my dogs on my bulletin board and also a drawing of a sunshine that my sister sent me last year during a month-long deluge. I have hung 3 frames with my favorite verses on the wall at eye level and of course, the folders I use to keep my paperwork organized are all red. J
A house is just a house, until you make it a home. I’ve seen myself hanging paintings on the wall before I start unpacking the boxes. And If I’m going to stay in a hotel room, I’ll make it my own by bringing some candles
or a Teddy Bear; I even bring my favorite pillow in it’s red pillowcase :-)
So when I hear someone describing their place as being a "dump", I really don’t understand how they can live there if that’s how they feel about it. My home is my castle and it sure feels like one to me.
It’s my safe place, my sanctuary; my shelter, my resting place. It’s not the money I spend on furniture or decorations; it’s about the love I unpack into every room, first for my own enjoyment, and then for my sanity.
Salut for now and I leave you with a quote from Dorothy “There is no place like home!”

That's beautiful, thank you!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had Dorothy's shoes and could say "There is no place like my big Sister's home" and come visit in a flash!
xxxxxx
Wouldn't that be tickety boo? You are so very welcome, A N Y T I M E, you wish!
DeleteOur wonderful brother has great knowledge of all things Star Trek .... maybe he can show us how we can beam ourselves back and forth from one home to another? Love you Sis-Wa♥
According to the Stardates used in the Star Trek shows, films and book, the transporter won't be available in your area until a few years!
DeleteDon't despair, the communication devices used on the first TV shows are now our cell phones! We may yet someday be able to say "Beam me up"!
Can't wait! Beam me up, Guy-Guy :) (sorry - had to rhyme with Scotty!)
DeleteNicely said! I have a clock that I love that has hung in my family's houses as long as I can remember. It always made each home we lived in feel right. My mom gave me that clock for Christmas this past year telling me she knew how much it meant to me!
ReplyDeleteHeather: how precious! Moms are so wonderful for thinking about things we take to heart. That is so great - a portable treasure! cheers, Sylvie
ReplyDeleteThe house where we live has now been our home for nearly 30 years. We may change everything in the house including the pictures, the color of the walls and the furniture, it would remain our house because we LIVE there!
ReplyDeleteIt's not just some place where we bump into each other and share an occasionnal meal! It's a place where we get together and do things, important or not, somewhere where we have chosen to be.
I agree with you 100%! The people you live with and love are somehow now imprinted in the walls of the house and indeed, a little bit of you stays with the house, even when you leave it. love you xxxxx. S
DeleteI have lived in many places and some were in pretty bad shape...but we always managed to make those places home by adding our favorite things...even when we were not allowed to paint. I always took photos of our homes and I am happy I did as to look back 30 years ago when we were first married and show my own kids what it was like when we were their age.
ReplyDeleteGreat H post.
Thank you, M. It sure makes a difference what our attitude is, doesn't it? You should see me pack when we go camping... a neighbor asked me: are you moving? ;o If i'm going to be away for at least a few days, i bring tons of stuff with me, not really because i need it but just because i'm going to decorate once i get there! Cheers, S
DeleteI've lived places where I never hung a single picture because I didn't plan to be there long. I like your philosophy better.
ReplyDeleteJust stopped by from A-Z. Have a great challenge!

Coffee in the Garden
Thank you Christine, the best to you as well. Cheers, Sylvie
DeleteI saw a phrase the other day...
ReplyDelete"An Englishman's home is his castle..until the Queen arrives."
(You need to be English to understand this perhaps..???!!!)
Well our home is our castle.. and you Sylvie are the Queen of yours!
Thank you for reminding us of our blessings.
Jane: does that expression mean that when the Queen comes over to your house for tea, she rules instead of you? What hapenned to "When in Rome, do as the Romans?" Maybe that rule does not apply to Her Majesty? :) S
ReplyDeleteI LOVED this text. And I totally agree with the way you think about making every place you stay long enough feel like a mini-home. A house is so much different than a home. You buy or rent a house, but you must build your home everytime you move.
ReplyDeleteThis is very neat. Well constructed and very true. Your style of thinking and how you analyze things is intriguing. I couldn't agree less. Home is indeed where the heart is and there's no place like it :)
ReplyDeleteThank you David- Feels even truer now that we are so far in distance from one another. It doesn't really matter where i am; what matters is who i'm with! ❤
